Agnes Stenbom is Sweden’s AI Person of the Year 2024

Agnes Stenbom, head of Schibsted Media’s inclusion lab IN/LAB and responsible for trust initiatives at Schibsted Media, has been named Sweden’s AI Person of the Year 2024.

The award, presented by TechSverige, recognizes individuals who make significant contributions to the development and visibility of Swedish AI. Stenbom is also the founder of the initiative Nordic AI Journalism and is celebrated for her work in promoting inclusion and trust within AI in Sweden.

She is recognized for her groundbreaking work showing how AI can shape the future of media to support democracy and inclusion. As an industry doctoral student and a co-founder of Nordic AI Journalism, she advocates for responsible AI development in journalism. Her efforts have contributed to ethical and transparent AI use focused on human values, both in Sweden and internationally.

Explore technology opportunities

N/LAB, founded in 2022 as a joint initiative by Schibsted Media and Tinius Trust, is led by Stenbom to ensure that a diversity of voices shapes the future of media. Together with young people from underrepresented groups, they explore new technology opportunities and creative solutions to address current challenges in editorial media.

Nordic AI Journalism, co-founded by Stenbom, is an industry network promoting responsible AI use in journalism in and beyond the Nordic region. By bringing together experts and journalists, it explores ethical AI solutions that uphold journalistic values and democracy while prioritizing public trust in media.

Jury’s motivation: Through her groundbreaking work for Schibsted and Tinius Trust, Agnes Stenbom has demonstrated how AI can shape the media of the future to support democracy and inclusion. As the founder and leader of IN/LAB, she has explored AI’s possibilities and challenges in media, setting a path for ethical and sustainable AI use that focuses on human values. Her work with Nordic AI Journalism promotes a responsible, transparent AI development in journalism, making her an inspiration both in Sweden and internationally. As an industry doctoral student, combining leadership and visionary perspectives, Agnes Stenbom is a strong advocate for technology that empowers citizens and society, setting a new standard for ethical AI use in media.
