Sundve has a long history with Schibsted, having held several key roles within the company. After spending a few years as Chief Product Officer at the food delivery company Oda, he returned to Schibsted Media last fall as an advisor to CEO Siv Juvik Tveitnes and the executive management team.
In his new role, Sundve will focus on strengthening Schibsted Media’s digital products, improving profitability, and delivering industry-leading user experiences.
“I’m thrilled to take on this role. On the one hand, we have great opportunities to create better journalism and deliver more relevant experiences for our users. On the other hand, we must simplify, improve efficiency, and fully realize the potential of the fantastic products we already provide to millions of users in Sweden and Norway,” Sundve says.
A new role
The Chief Product Officer position is newly established. Previously, product development was managed alongside user payments under the Product and Consumer division. With this change, product development will become its own dedicated area under Sundve’s leadership. Meanwhile, user payments will remain integrated with advertising operations (Schibsted Marketing Services – SMS) to explore synergies and foster closer collaboration between the two areas.
“This marks an important step in our strategy to further develop Schibsted Media. Putting the user at the center is one of the most critical elements of our long-term strategy, and appointing a CPO is a natural step to emphasize this focus. It strengthens our ability to build on the already highly skilled and innovative product organization, enabling us to deliver even more seamless and valuable experiences to our users,” says CEO Siv Juvik Tveitnes.
Sundve has previously served as VP of Product Management at Schibsted News Media and Chief Product and Tech Officer at VG. He also brings valuable experience from Oda, where he worked on streamlining operations and improving products.
Tveitnes highlighted the significant impact Sundve has already made in his role as an advisor to the executive team over the past six months.
“Having Espen as a permanent member of the leadership team and as the head of our strong product development organization will strengthen the entire company as we work towards becoming the leading media destination in the Nordics,” Tveitnes says.
