Schibsted’s statement regarding the European Commission’s Statement of Objections

Kristin Skogen Lund, Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The European Commission today announced that it has sent a Statement of Objections to Meta over anticompetitive conduct, particularly in online classified ads, that violates EU competition rules. Schibsted has actively followed the file and also given input to the Commission. We, therefore, appreciate that the Commission today has taken one more step to bring the case forward.

“We welcome the decision of the European Commission to issue this Statement of Objections, as well as the dedication to invest time and resources into lengthy and complex investigations on digital markets to ensure that these remain competitive. While we await the final outcome of the investigation, we note in particular the concerns related to the tying of Meta’s online classified ads service Facebook Marketplace with its dominant personal social network Facebook and the potential foreclosure of competitors across the EU,” says Kristin Skogen Lund, CEO of Schibsted.
