VG Launches ”Fotballpodden”

VG is stepping up its game with the launch of a new podcast dedicated to football. ”Fotballpodden” will bring listeners and viewers the latest news and in-depth analysis from Norwegian and international football, featuring familiar faces from VG’s sports department.

“It’s about time we joined the game with a sports podcast. We’re really excited to offer football news in an audio format,” says Ida Høidalen, who is usually the head of video in VG’s sports department.

Now, she’s also taking on the role of host for the new podcast, which, after an internal naming competition, has been aptly named ”Fotballpodden.” She’ll be joined by VG’s football commentator Vegard Aulstad and football reporter Mats Arntzen, who will both be regular contributors. The first episode released earlier this week.

Largely video-based

The podcast will be largely video-based, meaning listeners can not only hear the episodes on the podcast platform Podme but also watch video content on VGTV and VG’s social media channels. Høidalen is looking forward to diving into the biggest topics in football, both locally and globally.

“We’ll have a regular weekly episode every Monday where we recap the weekend’s highlights. We’ll also release special episodes when something big happens in the football world, or when we have interesting guests,” she says.

Høidalen emphasizes that their goal is to create a podcast that’s both informative and entertaining.

“We want to become the go-to source for football news and analysis, whether you want to have it all or just want to catch the main highlights,” Høidalen adds.
VG’s sports editor Frode Buanes is enthusiastic about the new venture and the team leading it.

“Ida, Vegard, and Mats have incredible knowledge and great chemistry, which I’m confident will resonate well with both our audio and video audiences. With ‘Fotballpodden,’ we aim to further strengthen VG’s position as a leader in sports journalism, and we’re excited to reach a wide audience that shares our passion for football,” says Buanes.
