Aftenposten

We strengthen democracy and freedom of speech through journalism you can trust

A leading digital media house

Aftenposten is one of Norway’s largest and leading digital media houses with over 250,000 subscribers. We have published our newspaper since 1860 and still produce the by far largest printed newspaper in the country. Our journalism, product development and commercial initiatives have been awarded both nationally and internationally. Our ambitions for the future are great.

Facts and figures

Founded in 1860

Christian Schibsted founded the newspaper in 1860 under the name Christiania Adresseblad. In 1861, the newspaper got its current name. In 1879, Amandus Theodor Schibsted took over the newspaper as sole owner and editor-in-chief.

215 employees

Aftenposten has 215 dedicated employees that seek to uncover and document what happens around us every day. We are passionate about what we do, and want to contribute to positive changes in society.

700,000 daily users

Aftenposten reaches people throughout Norway with our content every day. We report and explain the biggest events of our time, while also giving our users new insight and inspiration.

Thorough explanations

Forklart is one of Norway's largest podcasts with 120,000 weekly listeners. In each episode, we give a thorough explanation of one news item or happening within 15 minutes. Our goal is to make it easier to understand what is happening and how things are connected.

Award-winning media house

Aftenposten has won several prestigious awards for its journalism, including SKUP in 2022 and 2023, Media House of the Year in 2023, and Image of the Year in 2024 and more. Aftenposten regularly wins awards for commercial and technological innovations in competition with the world's leading media.

Editor in chief: Trine Eilertsen

Trine Eilertsen has been editor-in-chief and CEO of Aftenposten since January 2020. She has a history as a political editor, commentator for NRK, and editor-in-chief for Bergens Tidene. She is also a board member of IPI and the INMA European Board.

Our history

During our over 160-year-long history, Aftenposten has established itself as one of the largest and most reliable news sources in Norway. Aftenposten still produces the largest printed newspaper in the country, but also publishes several magazines, a newspaper for children, some of Norway’s most popular podcasts and newsletters, and offers an award-winning digital news experience at aftenposten.no.
